What I Do

While most people are able to benefit from therapy when experiencing psychological issues, many are nervous to see a psychologist.  If you are visiting this website, you have already taken the first steps.  My style as a therapist is generally described as caring, empathic and non-judgemental.    I have a quieter, low-key personality, and so my strength is in part letting my clients work at their own pace without being too directive or confrontational.  I am collaborative with clients in terms of setting goals, structuring sessions, and providing readings or exercises to do between sessions.  As your therapist, I would work with you as an individual and tailor the treatment to your specific needs, instead of focusing exclusively on a particular diagnosis or set of diagnoses.

I work with adults in clinical and health psychology.  I treat a variety of psychological issues, on their own or in combination, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, personality disorders and trauma.  I work with clients with chronic pain or other health problems.  I also help clients with  relationship issues, work stress, identity issues, existential concerns, LGBTQ health and wellness, grief, self-esteem, and self-acceptance.

My part-time work at a family health team has given me experience with a wide range of issues relevant to adults of all ages, for example anxiety, depression and trauma. I currently treat a variety of issues in my practice in both clinical and health psychology. A significant part of my training before that has been in working with people with eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, as well as other difficulties with eating or body image.  From that, I developed more general expertise in working with issues relevant to women and young adults, the demographics most commonly affected by eating disorders.  I am experienced with other concerns relevant to adolescents and young adults, such as school stress, academic perfectionism, selecting a career path, disagreements with parents, relationship issues, and concerns related to social media.

I provide a warm, safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment within which to work towards your goals.  I work with clients in both English and French.  During the first session or two we would come to an understanding of the issues that you wanted to work on and the factors that may have contributed to them, informed in part by psychological questionnaires that I would ask you to complete.  We would collaboratively set therapeutic goals, and agree on a provisional treatment plan to reach those goals together.  In terms of therapeutic approach, I employ concepts and tools from CBT, DBT, ACT, schema therapy and mindfulness-based therapies depending on the issue the client is facing.  I also use some elements from psychodynamic psychotherapy to conceptualize where psychological issues may have come from.  For trauma, I use CPT or PE. My approach is informed by research in cognitive science, evolutionary psychology and social psychology.  I encourage clients to work at their own pace, without any pressure to discuss issues that they are not ready to address.  I monitor my clients’ progress throughout the course of therapy using a brief questionnaire so as to better help them reach their goals.

The absolute best, helped me through my eating disorder and anxiety difficulties. Allowed me to see the world in less black vs white and that I am able to cope with things even when I think I can't.
